The client is a leading manufacturer of home automation systems. Their employee strength across the globe is more than four thousand.


Business Challenges


The following are the business challenges that we addressed with the implementation of the project:

  • Slow performing end-user reports
  • Slow data loading to BW RDBMS system with growing data volumes
  • Non-secure connection to access reports


The Solution


The solution includes:

  • Upgrading the BW 7.4 on MSSQL 2016 to BW on HANA 7.5
  • Optimizing the BW Objects for HANA Modelling


Further details of the project


As part of the project, we did the sizing of BW on HANA 7.5 landscape for Developer (dev), Quality Assurance (QA), and Production stages. Post that, we architected the BW on HANA landscape with High Availability / Disaster Recovery (HA/DR).


HANA 2.0 was installed as a single node for dev and installed as distributed nodes for QA and Production stages. Using SUM DMO, the upgrade and migration from BW 7.4 on MSSQL to BW 7.5 on HANA were completed. SAP BPC 10.0 was updated to SAP BPC 10.1 on the BW on HANA landscape.


A post-migration HANA report/task list was run to migrate all the standard objects to HANA objects.


Post the migration, the performance fine-tuning of the OS, application, of HANA parameters was completed. For the Production Landscape, VMWare Fault-tolerant was used as High Availability (HA) solution, and the Disaster Recovery site on the QA Landscape was setup using HANA data asynchronous replication, meeting the corporate SLAs for RTO and RPO.


Trusted server/client/SNC certificates for HANA & Applications were generated for secure communication between SAP Systems. Authentication to HANA databased was enabled using Windows Active Directory (AD) authentication.
