Implementing SAP S/4HANA and BW/4HANA on Azure Cloud

About the Client:

Our client is one of the largest retailers in the United States with operations in eight countries.


Business Challenge:


The client decided to implement SAP S/4HANA, BW/4HANA on Azure with High Availability and Disaster Recovery capability. Further, the client also wanted to implement S/4 Finance, Master Data Governance and Enterprise Data Foundation in their projects.

The implementation further necessitated the Data Transfer options between On-Premise Systems and the Azure Platform while ensuring secure communication between them.


The Solution:


The SAP HANA experts at TekLink took up the challenge and implemented the project comprehensively to the satisfaction of the client by,

  • Installing SAP HANA systems (S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, Fiori, SLT, SSO) on Azure cloud with best practices of SAP & Azure
  • Building HA/DR capability for SAP using pacemaker and distributed nodes for HANA database
  • Building and configuring load balancing and segregation of load using multiple DP (Data Provisioning) agents, from on-premise data sources to Azure
  • Generating trusted server/client/SNC certificates of HANA and applications for secure communications between SAP systems and servers
  • Integrating Onapsis add-on with SAP landscape (ABAP, JAVA, HANA) for identifying security vulnerabilities
  • Using ChaRM & Focus Build tools for change management purpose


Further details of the implementation


The S/4 implementation involved the configuring of the S/4 system for “Simple & Master Data Governance Projects with Data Replication Framework, i.e. DRF”. Further SNC encryption was configured for ensuring secure communication between Message Servers, Application Servers, Database Serves and the BOBJ Application. In addition, we also configured Fiori Apps connecting to backup S/4 and HANA database with the help of the Single Sign-On Configuration that was a part of the implementation.

In the implementation of BW/4HANA we configured SAP and non-SAP data sources to BW/4HANA Landscape. The implementation also took care of building the SDI/DP Agents for data extraction from SQL, DB2 or Oracle databases. Further in the implementation, we also configured SLT replication from ECC/CRM sources for the Project. The project also included integration with HADOOP for pushing cold data and connection to SAC & Power BI.

The Single Sign-On (SSO) was implemented by installing and configuring SAP Single Sign-On server with High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) capability. This implementation connects to all the SAP Systems with the help of only one user credentials for authentication.


Outcome and Benefits:


The solution enabled the client gain flexibility and scalability of their SAP systems by establishing BW/4HANA as a Central Source of reporting in a cross-modelling architecture. It also ensured the centralizing of master data using Global Data Network (GDN) framework for usage to internal applications, customers and vendors. With the Single Sign-On for all SAP Applications we have successfully enabled Zero Password Maintenance. And lastly a secure communication channel has been established for the SAP System for internal and external purposes.
